Facebook fraud

Guess they're no longer Facebook friends.

A couple from Kortemark is being legally pursued for creating a false Facebook page in the name of the woman’s former boss and portraying him as having an affair. The victim filed a complaint last year and the couple is being charged with IT fraud carrying a six-month to five-year prison sentence and up to €550,000 in fines as no other appropriate legislation exists.

Burglars walk free

So short-staffed theyre sharing rides.

Charleroi police’s forensic laboratories only managed to identify 16 burglary suspects in four months due to a lack of staff. The laboratory normally manages at least 60 when at full staff capacity. With 10 outstanding vacancies out of 26 positions, Charleroi’s forensic police no longer respond to burglary cases.

SM grants

Not worn during the student's SM meeting.

The student association Kajira for enthusiasts of sadomasochism was denied subsidies by the University of Ghent on grounds that it was too new. According to the statutes, societies cannot apply for recognition in the academic year following their founding. At least five meetings or activities must also have been held in the previous calendar year. Kajira will be eligible to apply from December.

Identity plates

But what about the German-speaking region?

The Flemish nationalist Vlaams Belang party proposed replacing the B for Belgium on new European licence plates with a W for Wallonia and a VL for Flanders. Brussels should fall under Flanders as it is historically a Flemish territory with people feeling an identity with Flanders, according to the Vlaams Belang. The new licence plates should therefore fall under community legislation rather than regional, as would other transport matters.

No logo

The MP' suggested pack design.

MP Catherine Fonck submitted a proposed law on May 2, banning all logos, designs and decoration from cigarette packets starting in 2013. Only the brand name, product type, health warnings with pictures, nicotine, tar and carbon monoxide content, quantity and bar codes would be printed in a bland font.
